Background

Kristen Swedberg is a PRODiG+ Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Public Administration and Policy. Her research explores the social benefits of protecting water resources, improves empirical methods for cost-benefit analysis, and evaluates environmental policy implementation and federal, state, and local levels. She specializes in nonmarket valuation methods, integrated socio-environmental modeling, and causal inference, using both frequentist and Bayesian methods. Her work in hedonic valuation of lake water quality has been published in PNAS and Land Economics.

Swedberg currently teaches in the Sustainable Communities and Public Policy Master’s Programs and the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓÆµ Research and Action PhD Program. Previously, she participated as a research fellow at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Water Economics Center. She completed a PhD in Economics from Virginia Tech in 2024 and an M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech in 2020.
