B-Alert Test

Emergency Notification System Test

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will conduct occasional tests of the B-Alert emergency notification system.  Typically, tests will occur once per semester.  The test may include the following elements of the B-Alert system:

  • Text messages
  • Email
  • Computer desktop pop-up
  • SafeBing mobile safety app
  • Red banner on all university web pages
  • Indoor / outdoor speakers
  • ShoreTel telephone paging

Testing the B-Alert system allows the University to ensure this vital equipment is fully operational and ready to be used if a critical incident were to occur.  It also allows members of the University community to ensure they are properly registered into the system and have multiple ways to receive the critical safety information.

If a real emergency were to occur, students, faculty and staff would receive critical information through the variety of resources below.

1) B-Alert text/email messages
Text and email messages would be sent out to all students, faculty and staff with information regarding the emergency. If you are not signed up to receive B-Alert text messages, follow this link to register.

2) ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Alert Page
All current alerts are posted to the official ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ alert page

3) ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ Website
University webpages will display a banner containing important information regarding critical incidents.

4) SafeBing Mobile Safety App
¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ's official safety app will send a push notification containing the same language as B-Alert text messages. These push notifications will be sent at the same time as texts. Download the SafeBing app on your mobile device by searching, "Safebing" in the App Store or Google Play.

5) Desktop Notifications
All publicly accessible University computers are set to receive pop-up warning screens anytime an emergency alert is issued. Any computer connected to the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ network may also be set up to receive these pop-ups. Once a computer has been set up with the client software, no further action will be needed to ensure you are immediately notified of emergency situations.
