Binghamton receives largest academic gift in University history to establish AI center

The Center for AI Responsibility and Research at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓÆµ is one of the nation’s first centers aimed at ethical AI research. This groundbreaking initiative seeks to establish Binghamton as a national leader in transparent, accountable and public-focused artificial intelligence research.

Housed at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓÆµ, the center will serve as a premier  AI research hub for the entire State University of New York system.

The center will leverage the Empire AI project, an initiative to establish New York as a leader in responsible AI research and development. Research conducted at the center will build upon research that advances AI for the public good – to strengthen communities, build our economy, and earn the public’s trust.

  • Developing novel technical innovations related to the safety and security of artificial intelligence models and systems
  • Recruiting and retaining top talent to Binghamton – including faculty, researchers, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students – dedicated to work in furtherance of the center's mission and goals
  • Maintaining integration with the Empire Al consortium’s New York's state-led computational resource and building research partnerships across SUNY and the state
