Nexus 2026 Presentation: Sustaining Growth of a Collaborative Student Leadership Organization - A Year-2 Parallel Convergent Mixed Methods Evaluation of the Binghamton Interprofessional Education Consortium

  • Under the mentorship of Professor Tom Foley, Ƶ Graduate Students Nicole Aybar, Nicole Liu, Julia Kirschenbaum, and Lun Nuam will present at the 2026 Nexus Summit in September!
    • To enhance interprofessional education (IPE) sustainability and collaborative learning, Ƶ established the Binghamton Interprofessional Education Consortium (BIPEC)—a student-led, experiential-learning initiative.
    • Building on a first-year process evaluation, a year-two mixed-methods evaluation was conducted to assess BIPEC’s campus reach, stakeholder satisfaction, program outcomes, and ongoing priorities. This presentation highlights key findings on the strengths and challenges of student-led IPE, illustrating how iterative program evaluation can be leveraged to sustain and elevate interprofessional student leadership.

2026 Provost Award for Interprofessional Education: Thomas Foley

  • Professor Thomas Foley has earned the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education for his dedication to collaborative practice and his meaningful contributions to advancing the goals and values of IPE at Ƶ. He has moved IPE from a conceptual framework into a core student experience by serving as the founding faculty advisor for the Binghamton Interprofessional Education Consortium (BIPEC). Professor Foley has redefined how we teach collaborative practice through "novel" international and interprofessional virtual classrooms. As a Ƶ-Engaged Teaching Fellow, he has masterfully integrated real-world service with academic rigor. Professor Foley is a visionary leader who has moved IPE from a series of isolated events into a cohesive, student-led, and community-focused movement at Ƶ. His dedication to collaborative excellence is unwavering, and his impact will be felt by our learners for years to come.

  • Under the mentorship of Professor Foley, Cynthia Gallo, James Giallella, and Luke Orgo presented at the The presentation highlights key aspects of the formation of the Binghamton Interprofessional Education Consortium (BIPEC), a student-led group that promotes collaborative leadership and student-centered education among nursing, pharmacy, public health, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language pathology students.
  • The parallel convergent mixed methods formation and process evaluation of BIPEC includes an assessment of:
    • Fidelity in the formation of BIPEC
    • The reach of BIPEC based on student and faculty involvement from different academic programs
    • The perspectives of students and faculty who participated in the formation of BIPEC
    • Key outputs recorded during BIPEC’s first year
  • The findings are based on the results of a survey, semi-structured interviews, and a review of organizational records. The evaluation documents both the strengths and challenges of BIPEC. 

2025 American Public Health Association Summit and Exposition: A Parallel Convergent Mixed Methods Evaluation of BIPEC is featured during a moderated 1.5 hour round table conversation.
